In an effort to once more use my Canon BJC-80 portable printer as before with an IRDA dongle, until the Windows 10 update, I decided to try a USB to printer parallel port cable. It had encouraging reviews and apparently had worked for others with Windows10x 64 bit pc's. Didn't work for me. I installed and uninstalled the BJC-80 so many times that I am now getting a 'Windows can't open Add Printer'. Or 'access denied' when I try and put everything right. (It seems I've messed up the Printers application settingsand I guess they need re-setting).
I am scared that if Irda support resumes in June, (as it is apparently due to be) I won't be able to make it all work. I am humiliated. Can anyone help?original title: 'Access denied' to Printers folder. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.Thank you.Dear Krishna Prasobh V,Thank you so much for your speedy response. I have tried so many times to troubleshoot the issue but without any success. I tried to download the drivers from the site you suggested. Sadly, my Windows 10,x64 bit OS is not supported.Canon stopped support for the BJC-80 years ago but I have been able to use the brilliant portable printer with an IRDA bridge on all Windows OS since that time. That includes Windows 10 - untiI the Windows 10 update last November when the IRDA device ceasedto be recognised. This caused much discontent as you can see in the response from the Community.
We are told that function of the IRDA bridge will be resumed by Microsoft in the end May/June update. My problem now is not the printer as such but using the Printers folder which says either ' Windows Can't open (for example) Add Printer' or 'Access denied'. Probably I have corrupted my settings for printers, and would not be able to install a new printereither.I wonder if it may be necessary to 'refresh' my HP Pavilion PC, or whether my printer settings will automatically reset with the end May/June update.Apologies for so much information but I hope it makes the situation clear. I am most grateful for your reply and look forward to hearing from you. Hi,Thank you for the response.I would like to know whether you have Windows 8 or Windows 7 drivers for the printer with you.If you have those, I suggest you to install it in compatibility mode and check if that helps to resolve the issue.Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.a. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on‘properties’.c.
Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists. Also try the below steps:1.
Type UAC on the search bar.2. From UAC window, I suggest you to bring down the level to default and check if it helps.Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.Thank you.
I am back in trouble with my BJC 80 printer - but the situation has reversed. This time, the SigmaTel IRDA/USB bridge is now working on Windows 10. The IRDA icon displays the message 'BJC 80 is in range' with a desktop icon saying 'send files to anothercomputer'. The current problem is that the 'add a printer' list for Canon printers now does not include (as before) BJC 80. So I am unable to install it. Is there another Canon printer that may have the same driver?
Or on the general list there is a referenceto a 'Generic - Text only' printer. Could this work? I know I can get a new printer but I am loathe to do this when it has been working perfectly.- until Windows 10.
